it’s not too late to claim your tax credits

Even though tax day is behind us, there is still time to receive the tax credits you’re eligible for. If you haven’t filed your federal or state tax return yet, get started today using the free resources below.

File yourself online

Do your taxes yourself online with MyFreeTaxes. You will need access to a computer, a valid email address, and all of your tax documents.

File online with remote help

Get free remote help to file your taxes from an IRS-certified tax preparer with GetYourRefund. Appointments fill quickly. This is a good option if you can earn under $69,000, can wait 2-3 weeks and have all your tax documents.

File with in-person tax help

Get free in-person tax filing   from an IRS-certified tax preparer at a Colorado Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or AARP Tax-Aide site.

These services offer free tax help to qualifying people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including people who make $69,000 or less, people with disabilities, or limited English-speaking taxpayers. VITA/TCE services are free, accurate, and trusted sources for preparing tax returns.

Most VITA sites will not be open after April 15, 2026.

Need more time to file your federal or state tax return?

The extension filing deadline is October 15, 2026.

You can apply for a filing extension with the IRS or the Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) using the buttons below. Filing an extension gives you more time to file your tax return, but not more time to pay if you owe taxes.
